Kill the Bitch!

OK, so now, after Saturday Night Live outed them, journalists are admitting they were seduced by Obama, and way too harsh on Hillary.  But what else is new? Look at the press for any powerful and straight-talking woman (especially if she's intelligent), Barbra Streisand, Oprah, Madonna, and you'll see she's been called a bitch over and over again.  Let's kill this term; kiss it bye-bye; let it go.  There's no reason to use a perjorative, and the press should not continue to get away with intimating she's "shrill," she "shrieks" or that she's a bitch.  HIllary, to her credit, handled most of the barrage with wit and grace.  Barack is now being vetted properly, and we'll see how he does.  DR. Romance agrees that the dream ticket is Hillary for Pres, Barack for VP.  That's setting the Dems up for 16 successful years in the White House.

Dr. Romance views the elections:

I think women are so unbelievably hard on Hillary -- here she is, this dedicated, clear-thinking, successful woman who has a real chance at the White House, and women take every chance to cut her down -- not for her political views, expertise or solutions, but because she wears pant suits, cries, or doesn't cry, for God's sake!!  Time magazine actually accused her of "shrieking" -- a word they'd NEVER use for a man. 

I believe in Hillary -- she's a fighter, and a survivor, and she's very savvy.  I like Barack, too, but I don't think he's prepared, and he's a very "pie in the sky" thinker, which sounds good to people, but is not very realistic.

We're going to need a president who is tough and has a creative and incisive mind, because our next president is inheriting numerous quagmires.  I agree with Hillary "It took a Clinton to clean up after the last Bush; maybe it will take a Clinton to clean up after this Bush" (not exact quote -- from memory)

Her ideas are good, her experience is good, she knows how the system works, she knows all the foreign heads of state, she's  a pro. Why would we not want her? Because we don't like what she's wearing?  Give me a break!

Out of Bounds

I'm visiting in the San Francisco Bay area, and everyone is abuzz about Mayor Gavin Newsome's affair with his campaign manager's wife.  What's interesting to Dr. Romance is that people are not so upset about the sex -- all the affairs and illicit sex involving politicians seem to have inured people to being shocked -- but they're upset about the betrayal of his long-time friend and campaign manager.  Apparently, it violates the "man code" of loyalty to buddies. 

Are we becoming unshockable?  To Dr. Romance, it seems that the press is using the excuse of "does this affect his trustworthiness as mayor, and effectiveness as a politician?" to drool over a juicy soap-opera, and sell more papers, TV shows, etc. 

Many people wonder how he could have been so stupid, but Dr. Romance knows the brain doesn't drive this behavior.  Most people in this situation, especially cheating on a friend  or spouse, are either driven by frustration and a desire to get even, or they're simply besotted and in denial about being found out.  Throughout history, people have risked all sorts of disasterous outcomes, from loss of family, reputation and finances to torture and beheading, to bed someone who should be out of bounds.  As Woody Allen said in the middle of his debacle with former wife Mia Farrow and step-daughter Soon-Yi "The heart wants what the heart wants."  Ah, but Dr. Romance thinks it's not necessarily the heart that's running the show either.....
